Fluorescent Lamps

Research shows that there are over 100 million fluorescent and highway lamps used in the United Kingdom each year which produce in excess of 3,100 tonnes of waste material which, until recently, has ended up in landfill sites.

Even though each lamp only contains a small amount or Mercury the sheer volume of waste means that large quantities of hazardous Mercury could find their way into our land and water supplies.

The Mercury from only one fluorescent tube can contaminate up to 30,000 litres of water beyond a safe standard for drinking.

It is no longer legal to use landfill sites for disposal and the modern and environmentally sound treatment is to recycle the lamps extracting the glass and metal components and distilling the elemental Mercury from the powder in the lamps for reuse.

Ecolamp offer this recycling service and have a simple pricing structure based on a price for the storage unit and price for collection and recycling of the contents.

One-off Disposal

If you currently have a stock of used lamps that are not containerized but need disposal, we can collect and recycle them as a one-off for the following price:

100-200 lamps = £0.70 per lamp
200-500 lamps = £0.40 per lamp
500+ = £0.30 per lamp

Please note sleeved lamps incur an extra charge of £0.10 (10p) per lamp, due to the extra labour charge in de-sleeving the lamps prior to crushing

Tubestore - £325 + £45 delivery

A cleverly designed locker system means we can offer the most safe, secure and space efficient storage available. Our lockers are available for fluorescent tube and bulb storage. They are finished in a manner which will be compatible with surroundings in the factory on the factory floor or in commercial premises, schools, colleges and other public buildings.

Our TubeStore, and associated BulbStore, have been designed for maximum security for waste lighting and can therefore be located anywhere. Our Stores are an upright system, and due to our lamp collection arrangements are a permanent fixture, meaning space taken for storage is minimised within your premises. Each TubeStore holds between 100 and 170 tubes, and where necessary Stores can be bolted directly together to optimise space.

TubeStore and BulbStore stand upright to minimise pressure on stored fluorescent tubes and therefore minimise breakages during storage. Both have windows in the door to enable your personnel to see when they are full and to ensure care is taken when opening. The Stores are secured to the wall to ensure that they cannot fall over when full, and have adjustable feet to enable safe and stable storage on any surface, and to take the weight of the wall screws. The Stores need to be stored internally, though we can supply for external use with prices on request.

The TubeStore has dividers at two levels to separate fluorescent tubes and prevent them falling. These have spring devices at the end to prevent light tubes from falling out when the door is open.

Tubes stand in a small catch tray, also with divisions for safety, which will ensure material from any breakages can be safely stored. The TubeStore can be locked shut with a simple padlock to allow access only to authorised personnel.

The BulbStore has four shelves with four containers in which to place waste bulbs. The containers are of heavy duty plastic construction.

The dimensions of each locker are 450mm (width) x 500mm (depth) x 2050mm (height). Each TubeStore holds between 100 and 170 fluorescent tubes, and where necessary Stores can be bolted directly together to optimise space.
